A Whole Ass Year

It’s been a whole ass year.

March 13th feels more like a new year milestone than January 1st does at this point. I’m not sure if this entire month will ever feel the same again.

A whole ass year later and it feels like last week and 87 years ago at the same damn time.

Remember our bubbles and empty shelves? Remember when we could only see each other through windows and front doors? Remember when we didn’t care and marched regardless because we were angry? It’s easy to forget when you can go back to Disney World.

A whole ass year later and counting two million bodies feels the same as counting Monopoly money.

Remember when they got scared? So scared they called the army? Remember when they protected Target better than they protected little black boys and girls? It’s easy to forget when you can start to fly again.

A whole ass year and having brown skin still is, has been, and always was a crime punishable by death.

Remember when we got loud? Remember when we took to the streets en masse in masks? Remember when our fists were made out of stone and we defaced Starbucks like Mount Rushmore? It’s easy to forget when you can get bottomless mimosas again.

A lot has happened in a whole ass year but there were a lot of whole ass years before. This year, we just had the time.
